Sundell Landscape Architecture PLLC is a site planning and design firm started by Dan Sundell to provide landscape architecture, site planning, and urban design services in Western New York. His years of experience working for larger firms, and smaller design studios at various locations nationwide has given him a knowledge base that allow him to quickly understand a clients needs and clearly communicate the possibilities. Residential Site Design
Sundell helps homeowners plan their outdoor spaces to be functional, attractive, comfortable, and low in maintenance. Sundell puts an emphasis on clear visual communication starting with hand sketches, moving to computer-generated plans and 3D models. Dan encourages homeowners to break away from traditional mulch beds of exotics and encourage naturalized beds of shrubs, perennials and groundcovers.
Commercial Site Planning
Sundell Landscape Architecture helps commercial clients obtain site plan approval. Dan also works with architects and engineers to prepare plans and specifications for bidding and construction. Dan's design approach is to understand how a site is used and where it is viewed from. He then embellishes with plantings, lighting and furnishings only where needed. He encourages clients to limit excessive open lawns while encouraging naturalized planting beds and meadows.

About
I am a Landscape Architect licensed in New York State with over 30 years of experience working for offices in Western New York and in in the Western US. I was initially attracted to landscape architecture as a way to combine interests in the outdoors with art and design. I continue to use my graphic skills to quickly, and clearly, communicate design concepts.
Forming Sundell Landscape Architecture in 2019 has allowed me to continue serving clients and work on interesting projects without the structure of a traditional corporate office. This has also allowed me to spend the time necessary to make clients happy for a lower rate.
During my career, I have received numerous awards for projects that I have managed and was a frequent speaker at conferences of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the American Planning Association.
